I feel like a snobby tobacco smoker when this is in my pipe. Balkan Sobranie is, perhaps, the most legendary pipe tobacco on the market. Upon lighting I noticed a very nice sweetness playing with Latakia it was unparalleled. Trough the bowl the mixture burned well, did not have to relight my pipe at all except after some tamping which was necessary after some half bowl was gone to ashes. Here is what my journey eventually brought me to. Could many honest and erudite pipe smokers be deceived . I added only a small portion of the cavendish (about 1/3 of what the other tobaccos were. The tin note is latakia forward with a strong sharp mustiness from the orientals, quite a different aroma from other balkan type blends I've had. It remains to be seen if the new production, coming from a quality blender that currently has trouble meeting demand for its best blends will be able to supply enough product and of high quality. The closest I've come to this heavenly blend is Macedonian Mixture by Compton's of Galashiels. Peaty and earthy, briny, peppery and a little bitter, leaves a dry sensation on the tongue and a smoky mineral aftertaste. Tobacco is a thin ribbon cut of black and brown, with a little tan mixed in. I have tried this blend recently, I do agree with fellow reviewers that it is a brilliant blend, it is creamy and smooth, burns really cool with a nice hint of sweetness in the background. This was sampled from a fairly fresh eight year old, 50g Gallaher's pouch back in 2010; This BSOM makes you reach for that elusive, sweetness with each draw. The Latakia presence is less intrusive, and as a whole it is a very satisfactory smoke. I am going to smoke this tin. The Yenidje is noticable. I had no trouble keeping the pipe lit, and was pleased I chose a group six pipe to smoke it in. I fell in love with it immediately, my stable of english blends are rather limited since I reach for it only when in the mood for Latakia which is about once or twice a week, I have to add that this is a blend, not a latakia orgy which really agreed with me.
